BCAA OFFER

There are a lot of expenses to consider when buying a home — from the deposit and legal fees to moving costs and, of course, home insurance. So when there is an opportunity to save a little along the way, it is worth knowing about.

Greater Vancouver REALTORS® has partnered with BCAA to offer eligible home-buying clients access to discounts on a new BCAA Home Insurance policy. Depending on eligibility, buyers may be able to save up to 30% on their first year of coverage.

The potential savings can include:

• 15% promotional discount when referred through the Greater Vancouver REALTORS® partnership

• 5% discount for purchasing the policy online

• 10% savings for BCAA Members, with additional loyalty savings potentially available to eligible members

Why home insurance matters when you are buying

Home insurance is an important part of the purchase process, and if you are obtaining mortgage financing, your lender will generally require proof that suitable insurance is in place before funds are advanced.

For condo and townhouse buyers, this is separate from the strata corporation’s insurance. The strata insures the building and common property, while an owner typically needs their own policy for items such as personal belongings, liability, improvements made to the suite and certain deductibles or losses that may become the owner’s responsibility.

That is why we encourage our buyers to start looking into insurance well before subject removal or completion, rather than leaving it until the last few days.

How the BCAA offer works

The program is available to home buyers who are referred through a Greater Vancouver REALTOR®. Buyers can then contact BCAA directly to determine their eligibility, obtain a quote and discuss the coverage that is appropriate for their property. The offer can be accessed online, by phone or through a BCAA service location.

As REALTORS®, we cannot provide insurance advice or recommend one insurance provider over another. What we can do is make sure our clients know about programs and resources that may be available to them so they can investigate their options and make an informed decision.
